Online gamblers willing to take bigger risks?
Being successful in the world of gambling is all about knowing when to take risks and when to 'edge you bets'; however, new research indicates that online gamblers could have slightly riskier tendencies than other gamblers...
A new study has recently been carried out into the behaviours and tendencies of people who regularly participate in online gambling; it has thrown up some surprising results, with the authors of the study suggesting that online gambling poses some interesting questions about the way in which players think and behave when they are gambling online when compared to more traditional formats of gambling.
The main focus of the results suggest that online gamblers may be more comfortable taking bigger risks than other types of gambler; there were found to be less inhibitions amongst online gamblers than those who participated in more traditional formats of gambling.
In addition to this, the findings also show that a whopping 80% of those players who take part in online gambling do so in the areas of racing and sports betting; this means that a mere 20% of the total number of internet gamblers are utilising online casinos.
The study carried out by Dr. Gainsbury also highlighted an emergence of a mobile gaming trend throughout her study participants.
"Research shows people look at their mobile first thing in the morning and last thing at night, take it to the bathroom with you," commented author of the study, Dr. Sally Gainsbury of Southern Cross University.
"This is something that allows you to take a bet anytime the mood strikes."
Increased convenience was also suggested as a primary factor in the ever increasing popularity of both online gambling and mobile gambling, with numbers expected to continue growing over the next few years.
