Asia aims to get tough on illegal online gaming

There have been a large number of reports coming to light in recent months that have claimed that there is to be a significant crackdown on illegal gambling activity throughout Asia. The numerous reports claim that governments throughout Asia are looking to stamp out the practise of illegal online gaming establishments; the most notable areas that are being targeted include the Philippines and Malaysia.
The attitude towards such illegal online gaming establishments has understandably drawn comparisons to a similar initiative that is already well underway in the United States. Despite this, it appears that America and Asia have quite different methods by which they are tackling their problems. There have already been 800 arrests throughout the Philippines and Malaysia since the beginning of 2011; it looks as thought the Government will continue to increase its efforts to put an end to the illegal practise of unauthorised online gambling. Many industry analysts have draw comparisons to 2010 as an example of the increased intolerance that the Government is taking with the problem; the number of offenders who have been arrested and the number of computers that have been confiscated has almost doubled from 2010 to 2011.
Interestingly, it appears that many of those who have been arrested are 'repeat offenders'; many industry analysts have suggested that this is the overriding reason for the Government's current harsh stance on the issue – it is thought that there will be much closer monitoring procedures put into place on public internet access points in an effort to try and combat the problem.
